“Defiance” recognises indigenous people and places them in a religious iconographic setting. Any relationship between indigenous people and iconography has normally been rejected by western culture. “Defiance” addresses this misbalance. The stained glass window of a church form the halo of the central person, who is echoed in the work, forming his own tribe. Initially perceived as a group of people, the viewer is being shown only one individual. A reflection of their own tribe, within.
