The Botanical series of artworks is inspired by the drawings of naturalist researchers from the 18th and 19th centuries. Many of the elements within the artworks are exact scans of these antique drawings, which are replicated and reassembled in the Botanical series. New and exotic worlds are therewith created; jungles of flowers, in which fish swim amongst the leaves, and birds can take to the air in augmented reality. The works are mounted in a floating frame under glass, reminiscent of the laboratory studies of botanical specimens. The juxtaposition of artworks, which were originally created in earlier centuries, revived to form a new and comprehensive whole, and further enhanced with augmented reality, connects the work through time and positions it firmly in the present, but also in the future. The Botanical series is created to be highly complex, filled with life from edge to edge, so that the viewer will always discover something new.
